4 miles on the elliptical yesterday, with the heart rate above the charts.

Tried to run 6.5 today outdoors. Conked out about 4 miles in and walked at least 2 of the remaining miles in.

Had a good 5 miler on Saturday at Rockefeller with Kathleen and Ben joining Abby and Kathy. Today I got an easy 8 miles on the elliptical in the gym.

My run with them lasted about one tenth of a mile. I met them at the end.

Can we spice this up with some color? It's hard for me to make sarcastic (I mean SUPPORTIVE) comments on straight numbers. How about your feelings on Steinbrenner's passing (g-d rest his soul)?

No, I am trying to do my best Bob imitation (yawn).

Steinbrenner? Good riddance. I think he has single handedly made baseball tickets unavailable for many people. Sure the suits can afford going to games, although even they can no longer afford the luxury boxes. It is ridiculous how much it costs to watch rookies making more than 4x a veteran teacher gets paid. On the positive side, not too long ago I met former Yankee Ron Bloomberg, who told me that George was a very charitable man, who often donated tickets and a fair amount of his money to all sorts of causes. He probably liked kittens, too.

Happy, Tracy?

Better.
But I think you're just jealous because the Yankees, you know, win a lot.

4.5 miles at Rockefeller.

So as I was running those 4.5 miles I started thinking as to how this blog could be spiced up a bit. I remembered a story told to me by a friend as to how she, a Chicago native, became a Yankee fan. What do you think, Tracy, would that spice things up? The story would be told in a delicate manner, naturally.

I have no shame, David. Share away. In fact, the older I get, the more proud I am of that story - but it's getting harder to work it into casual conversation without being too obvious. I would be curious as to how the story could be told in a delicate manner.

A LONG LONG time ago, a young lass, let's call her "Cleopatra," went out with her aide to a feast. At such feast a group of evil soldiers from a distant land gathered for their own feast. One of the less established soldiers spent much time staring at the young lass. At one point during the evening, perhaps when the aide had excused himself for a moment, the soldier anounced to his fellow soldiers he was willing to go all "Marc Antony," on Cleopatra. Let me add that the soldier did not use the phrase "Marc Antony" but a much coarser term. By "Marc Antony," let me also be clear that he did not mean that he wished to betroth or kill the then-young Cleopatra. Perhaps because her aide did not stand up Cleopatra, the aide soon fell out of her favor, whilst Cleopatra, apparently honoured by the suggestion, became enamored of the army, despite her upbringing in a different kingdom. Despite the passage of MANY YEARS, Cleopatra remains enamored of that army and has in fact moved to the kingdom which the evil soldiers control with another, much more beneficent, group of soldiers.

Wow... you were able to tell that story in a tasteful manner! I'm impressed. Very nicely done.

Yeah, but I didn't understand it.

I was wondering if that would happen. Perhaps he should try again, less obliquely?

Agreed, Tom.

Ian, in blunter terms, upon coming across a number of Yankees while at a Boston restaurant with a now-ex boyfriend, Tracy overheard one Yankee pronounce to his mates that she was do-able.

Got up late because I did not have a good night's sleep. I passed on running outside and thought I would go to the gym and run on the elliptical. Got inspired when the other runners in the house decided to go and run six, so I ran on the indoor track for 78 laps-- 6 miles.

I owe you dinner, though. When are you claiming that? I'm sure I can provide some sort of fodder then.

Another 5 miles on the elliptical. Much easier than running outdoors in Queens.

Running outdoors in Queens isn't bad when you drop out in the first third of the race and take the subway home. So I hear, anyway.

3 more miles on the elliptical. Not sure how much more I'll be running in the coming days as I am headed to Purgatory for the weekend.
