Hey Chicago-area friends - are any of you running a local half marathon this weekend? My long-lost niece (actually my ex-husband's niece, with whom I've just recently reconnected) is running her first half marathon somewhere in the windy city Sunday. I'd like to think there's a Taper out there somewhere who could at least carry her through in thought. _________________ "Through the years, I have learned that there is no harm in charging oneself up with delusions between moments of valid inspiration." - Steve Martin

| I'm going to try to run 13 tomorrow, but not in a race. Melina & I will be cranking out 11-minute miles in her neighborhood. Your niece is welcome to join us Judy, if you think she could keep up with our wicked pace. |

The RnR Chicago half is this morning, right? I read online that their athlete tracking system - the usual text messages for spectators - costs $2 per athlete. Glad I'm not tracking anyone as those things usually don't even work right for me (delayed messages, the like). _________________ -Tracy |

As Tracy noted, this was probably the RNR Chicago, which is the latest incarnation of the former Chicago Distance Classic. The price is now up to $135 and is the main reason I'm not running it for the first time in 5 years.
I'm pretty sad that this race has changed so much because it was here that I met Bob, Greg, Dave-O, Lauren, etc. for the first time. I always looked forward to hanging out in Grant Park with everyone after the race, probably more so than I enjoyed the race itself. This is also where we solidified our DWD team for the first year that we ran it. Too bad RNR feels the need to charge some $85+ more than it once cost to run 13.1 miles. |

Wow....
RnR also bought the Philly Distance Run, which really surprised me as it's seemed to change the tone of the race entirely (from fall tune-up, elite-heavy race to party, first-timer atmosphere). $135 for a half marathon is highway robbery, though. _________________ -Tracy |

I was on the Vegas marathon site this past week and saw the the price for the full and the 1/2 marathon were the same. $145. My friends are running the full - and I was pondering coming out to do the 1/2. Maybe i'll just fly out and put that $145 on the blackjack table. _________________ "Superman never made any money for saving the world from Solomon Grundy." - CTD |
