By Judy's criteria, I'm not sure I would ever run another Rock N Roll event. I've had very mixed results with respect to that organization's ability to run races. On the other hand, my ING experiences have never been bad.

Hmmm - I'm rethinking that Asbury Park marathon - not because of Matt's experience, but a couple of other reasons. Looking at finishing times from last year, it does not look at all like a fast course (could have been the weather or other conditions) - but most people ran considerably slower than their other 2009 marathons. Why run in loops if not for speed? Ocean Drive (March) is starting to sound like a better NJ option.

And I really need RI, so am thinking perhaps Breakers on the same day.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery on any of these?

I'm thinking I'm going to pass on Asbury Park as well, and Ocean Drive looks more appealing schedule-wise anyway. I hope to BQ in the fall, and I think RtB is the place to take care of that even with the hard packed road course. It just seems fast all the way around.

I'm guessing that Breakers is similar to the old Ocean State race in Newport. It was my first BQ in 1984, and Newport is a wonderful place to run. It was a loop course, but very flat and very scenic. I'd go for RI. (It is also easy to fly to Providence or Boston).

Change in races this weekend. With predicted highs in the 90's in SC, I am switching from the Chattooga 50K to the Black Mountain Monster 12/24. I entered the 12 hour race. Highs only in the 80's and it's a 3 mile loop course. I've only run one time since the Scenic City Trail Marathon so this should be quite interesting.

Just looked at the calendar and realized Seattle Rock 'n Roll is no longer listed (then again, perhaps it never was!) Plus I'm running Royal Victoria.

6/26/10: Seattle Rock 'n Roll
EatDrinkRunWoman

10/10/10: Royal Victoria Marathon

Thank you!

Please put me down for this one. First Call Marathon Aug 7th. Its a fat ass (thats the term not my fault) local, food bank donation gets you in probably 50 entrants by last years results.

I just signed up for Steamtown on 10/10. There are other Tapers who've also signed up, but I'll let them out themselves.

(And am I really the only taper running New York this year?)

Hey Ian, remove the Wild Hare Marathon for me. They are running it on August 7th and I'll be out in California. I was thinking of running a 12 hour race out there on the 7th but I don't think my husband would be too happy if I wasn't around for my brother-in-law's 50th birthday party that evening. Rolling Eyes Sheesh.

So, right now I have no races on the schedule until September 5th...Norris Dam Hard Trail 50K. Whatever will I do? I'm already bored.

Hotter than Hell? Great RD, in a beautiful part of the state, but the course itself is a big yawn. Run around a small lake that is overrun with geese and their droppings, and no views.

Kent, that one is the weekend after we leave. The one I was looking at was 12 Hours at Cool. It's a night run starting at 7PM on the 7th of August in Cool, Ca. Not too far from where we'll be staying in Sacramento.

I haven't run this race (yet) but it has an excellent reputation.

I can see why you would bail. It's only a marathon. Wink You need to find something longer with some mountains that weekend.

And why does the Great Eastern Endurance Race have to be on the same weekend as Hinson Lake Ultra? Can't these RD's get together and coordinate their races a bit better? Smile Maybe I'll be able to run GEER next year.

Hello, I'm new here, and I'm not sure where the races are "listed", but I'm almost done with the madness - San Francisco marathon is on Sunday and I'm running that one... Do you know, that you will see more runners on the streets when you are tapering? I swear, even someone trying to catch a bus looks like a runner to me right now...

Welcome Aila. Good luck with your race Sunday. Is it your first?

Yep, I've experienced that. And they're running effortlessly, too!
Good luck on Sunday!

Edited to change "vie" to "I've." Stupid "smart phone" is adamant that I want to say "vie" all the time. Dumb.

It's kind of a shame really - they were featured in Runners World a couple of years ago and all of a sudden, the neat little back yard marathon has gotten too big. Having it administered by the Chattanooga Track Club doesn't help either.

Thank you for your welcomes.. I am from San Jose CA, so I just spent one night in San Francisco before the race. It went well, although now my IT band is angry... this was my 3rd marathon. I ran Marine Corps Marathon last year and Big Sur this April.
Oh, next race is October 31, Silicon Valley Marathon, I can actually run to the starting line-up, it's only 4 miles from home!

Signed up for the Peachtree City 50K on November 14th. Will probably run Bartram Forest 50K again on the 27th of November. They don't have sign up info posted yet tho.

Looking like Thunder Road again on December 12th and Freedom Park New Year's Ultra on December 31st.

Change my race on the 9th of October to Bethel 1/2 marathon. Can't make it to Triple Lakes. Soccer game conflict with Molly.

Thanks Ian!

Did you notice there is no race day packet pick up this year at Thunder Road. I have ran the marathon 2 times but they had race day packet pick up. I guess I am skipping it this year.

I'll see you there Lynne! I'm hoping to make it back to this one this year, but not for 24 hours. I'm thinking probably 6, MAYBE 12.

I was also looking forward to doing Thunder Road, but my wife is graduating from grad school that day, so I'll be enjoying the day off.

Babs, have you contacted them about having someone pick up the packet for you? Or have you made a special request for a race day pickup? I always figure it's worth a try, even though the answer is usually something I don't want to hear.

I didn't notice that Babs. That is going to suck having to drive down there Friday night for packet pick-up and then back down again for the race on Saturday. Sad

Oh and Ian, it's December 11th....not 12th. Sorry.

Matt, I'm not running the full 24 either. Most likely stop at 12 hours.

Yeah, still not sure if I will toe the line. It has been so hot, I have struggled when running anything over 3-4 miles.
