Hey Don, glad you decided to wonder on over. Kind of sucks that they did away with our DOit site.

Guess I'll stick around awhile this time as I've been lurking quite a bit for the last several weeks. It's surprising how many people I'm recognising from the old DoIt forum.
I'm a 50 year young mother of 2. One daughter just off to University this year Sad in Vancouver and my 15 year old son still at home. My husband doesn't run but is very supportive of my running. Just ran marathon # 8 here in Victoria, British Columbia. Won't post about that as I'd rather forget it. Embarassed I've been running since 1997 when I did my 1st marathon here in Victoria and 1st came across online discussions in 2001 when I trained for my 3rd marathon (Chicago) where I BQ'd in my 3rd marathon. Ran Boston in 2003 (BQ'd again) and ran it again in 2004. Met Judy there both years and have been inspired by her race reports ever since. Last year I ran the Munich marathon and got my PR of 3:48. That was alot of fun. Hoped to run a 3:45 this weekend but had a bad run and ran 3:53 but again it's a BQ so can't really complain. I'm running Boston again this April and want to try something completely different so will be watching with interest what others are running and will be seeking lots of advice. Have to figure out how to post a picture or graphic of some sort. Lots of time for that, I guess.

Well, I have been reading and enjoying this forum for some time now so I guess it is time I introduced myself. I'm 45 years old and I'm a relatively new runner, as I have only been running for about 5 years now and have done 2 marathons and a few other organized races. I started running in an attempt to loose weight (-50 lbs) and have become completely obsessed with the sport. I run between 25 - 35 miles a week and I just completed the MCM, will be running the Blue/Gray 1/2 Marathon in Fredericksburg, Va next weekend and am training for the Shamrock in March. (Not bad for an ex-pot head, couch potato, Shocked .)

I've learned alot on this forum and see that alot of people think and act just like me. I'm tired of forums where newbies who ask questions are responded to like they are stupid and I'm tired of purists who look down on those of us who want to use Ipods when we run. I look forward to participating in discussions and I hope I don't piss anyone off with my comments.

Glad to be here. Slow and Steady.. Very Happy

Hey SlowAndSteady,

Welcome. Glad you made it over here. And we welcome your questions.

We are defintiley have a wide variety of opinions, we try (emphasis on try) to respect all. Most of the time we are successful at that. While we are not a homogeneous bunch, the one thing we do share is a enjoyment for running.

Are you another Virginian like I am? There are several of us that live there now.

Now, as for calling us "unpure," I might take an issue with that....

Yeah, I'm pissed that you think you are a relatively new runner. Five years and two marathons graduates you beyond "new", not sure what you graduate to or if you get a diploma or anything, but anyhow, welcome and I like the avatar.

Toby, is right you lost the rookie status when you went on to your second marathon, only about half do that. And if you feel hooked then you are one of us and then some. Some of us don't care for ipod running but so what. I think you have to be a bit thick skinned to be a multiple marathoner. And a little wackyness is ordinary or you also wouldn't do this, and put up with the nonrunners predudiced feelings toward running. I think that bugs me more. Welcome, welcome. Ric.

Yea, I guess running 5 years doesn't make me a "new" runner but It seems like everytime I talk to someone at a race or at the Running store, they tell me they have been running for 25 years or more. My mistake, anyhow, with all the quirkieness I think I'm going to fit in nicely here.

Thanks for the nice welcome. Even you, ck....I like the sarcasm...

Greetings!

I found this forum a while ago while trying to escape that "other" forum's boredom. Y'all seem like the lively bunch I'll let myself be abused by once in a while. Mind if I join in the fray?

I have been running off and on since age 2 or so, mostly after some couch or girl but nothing real serious until a marathon last year. Planning on my second and maybe third this coming year. Other than that, as the nickname implies: daft, dull and geeky.

Yes, you may join the fray, but if you're another fast runner who's just qualified for their umpteenth Boston, well ....

There's a thread for that!

Scuba told me to post an intro, so here it is! (Hi C!)

I've been running 9ish years and ran my first marathon 3 years ago. I live in sunny NC. I'm 26.

I run because I love it and because I don't want to be a fatty. One day soon I want to follow one of those training schedules and run a fast (for me) marathon. Maybe 2007...

I'm not sure what else to say!

Welcome to the nuthouse, Little Bit. Don't let these guys scare you. If you don't like it here, it's Dane's fault since he led you here! Wink

By the way everyone, "Bit" is modest - she is already fast (and tiny)! Happy Trails!! Smile

Welcome from a fellow North Carolinian. Where abouts do you live in our fair state? I'm up in the mountains near Asheville. Don P. is in Winston Salem, and Karl K lives in Charlotte. We also have some Greenville, SC tapers. Maybe we'll bump into each other at a race somewhere. Smile

Are you planning to run any races out this way? Uwharrie or Umstead maybe?

I will be in W-S for a race this weekend. Smile

I ran the Umstead Trail Marathon last year. Very, very hot. Not my best race but really enjoyed the course and everything else about the race. I decided to run a different NC marathon this year....OBX in November.

I ran it last year too. Very hot indeed! I am running again this year to redeem myself, as I had a terrible day last year. There will be no crying this year. Razz

I contemplated running it again. I mean, how could it be 85 degrees 2 years in a row? By the time I was finished comtemplating it had reached capacity. Decision made for me. Wink

Hey gang, D-Wes here. You thought you could hide from me using the ol' pornography label, didn't ya? Work's blocking software has denied access to tapermadness.com labeling it "pornography or obscene material." Imagine that...

I HAVE A NEW JOB! Praise the good karma and good wishes, I HAVE A NEW JOB! I start Jan 10 (internal transfer, same company). A 100% lateral job move, but I'm not working for them. I can... without a doubt... state that the last six, seven months have been the worst six or seven months of my life. So many people have left the dept that the dept no longer exists. The remaining employees have been disbursed to other groups. Incredible how a sour work environment impacts every segment of your life. I shall try to get myself back on track and repair the damage.

I've read a few posts. I'm really sorry to read about the family losses but cheered to read some great race reports plus see some familiar names and faces from previous boards. Also see that the TM soap opera has been in full swing Wink Nothing says welcome to new posters like a good cat fight!

Hello and welcome to the new folks. It's a great place -- very Hotel California-esque.

Hello all from South Florida. I've been running off and on for 25 years or so. This year will be the first attempt (and completion) of a marathon. People I'm around already think I'm nuts and can't stop talking about running so this seems like to place to be. I'll be running the A1A in FtLauderdale next month as well as the Miami half next weekend. If you're in the area for either, give me a shout.

I'm originally from Omaha/CB and moved to Cuba...er So.Fla to escape the snow. Now my lungs don't scream when it's < 40 degrees. I look forward to all of the banter and the priceless info/suggestions that come from this board. See y'all on the roads.

Ah, so you'll bring some maturity to this group. Welcome, Bud.

Hi Everyone-

I was a poster on the old Higdon boards from 2001 - late 2003. While I have kept up with my running, my crazy schedule has kept me away from the boards.

Luckily, my dear friend Len has kept me abreast of all of the happenings on this new board and now I've wandered over to join all the madness.

I have been running 20 - 30 miles per week since about 2001. I have done Chicago Marathon a couple of times, Washington D.C. Marathon, San Francisco Marathon, Flying Pig and Beijing Marathon.

My husband is a strong Ironman competitor and he keeps me off of the couch. Smile We enjoy running, cycling, yoga and just about anything out of doors.

If you're from the old boards, you probably once knew me as the "Bunny Babe".

That's it for now.

Best,
Chiaren
a.k.a. Bunny Babe

Welcome back, Bunny Babe. Didn't you used to be the BOULDER Bunny Babe? What happened? Is California stealing all of our good runners?
