I want a dog that can smell out a monkey in random luggage. That could so easily get me on Letterman.

Oh, and Matt. You're a pompous ass.

I'm stunned. Shocked. I literally feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

For those of you that supported me, thanks. It wasn't just one post in one thread. You know that. Rules are rules, and this is a sitation that has gone unchecked for waaaay too long.

But, clearly, I overestimated my worth. That's fine, before honor comes humility. So I will swallow this latest dose of humility and emerge stronger.

I think my 2009 golf game just got a MAJOR boost.

Best comment below the story:

Obviously the passenger violated the no carrion luggage rule.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/running/2009/05/14/fall-marathons-already/

From the Flying Pig peeps

Quote:
Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon, Nashville

Hmm, that name sounds familiar doesn’t it? If you’re a Cincinnatian, you might have to get past the race literature, in which they try to counter the big, modern “event” type marathons and has a name that at least seems to take a shot at our own Flying Pig. A recurring phrase you will read about this race is a boast that it’s a “non-flat, non-fast” course. That’s fine and all, but we must point out that you’ll never hear the words “flat and fast” in another Flying marathon’s literature. Still and all, it’s though a park, it sounds challenging and yes, an “old school” smaller marathon can indeed be refreshing.

Wonder why they are so defensive?

I think it's interesting that every other race gets a short sentence or two, but yours gets a full paragraph. Definitely a complex of some sort.

Is that 8AM Saturday Central time? BTW Kremer is going to enter and I am strongly considering it as we would then ride together.

I'm thinking of doing Chickamauga, Monkey, and Derby 50K in Nov. Do Monkey vets get any leeway with registering? I noticed I didn't get the early Monkey email sign-up this year. Sad

Ok, when I checked the monkey page and saw that in the first half hour of registration there were only 66 slots left (out of 200) I panicked. I signed up again. I'm so stupid.

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

A friend and some of her friends from an internet knitting group made them. (Can you believe that have internet groups for knitters? What's next, internet groups for runners?!? Crazy!) They are for places 1-3, M/F regular and masters. That is 12. There are 2 extra that will go as a special prize.

Runin' got my chips cashed in
Keep runin' like the monkey man
Together, more or less in line
Just keep runin' on

Monkeys with wings all flashing overhead on Main Street
Three mile hill, Nine Mile, and Shell Hill, its all the same street
Your typical climb involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what the next turn brings

Yeah, Shell Hill, it will break you down
Your legs screaming will make you frown
Climb on if you've got the ways and means
But the hills just won't let you be

Most of the cats that you meet on the street speak of runnin'
Most of the time they're runnin' and racin' at home
One of these days they know they gotta get going
Out of the door into the hills and the unknown

Runin' got my chips cashed in
Keep runin' like the monkey man
Together, more or less in line
Just keep runin' on

Sometimes the monkeys swoop down on me
Other times I am runnin' free
Lately it occurs to me
What a long strange trip it's been

What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She got some blisters you know she isn't the same
Living on gu and vitamin I and gat'rade
All her friends can say is ain't it a shame

Runnin' up to the high plateau
Been thinking you got to go mellow slow
Takes time, you pick a race to go
Just keep runin' on

Sitting and staring out at the aery ridges
Got a tip they're gonna beat my legs down again
Like to get some training before I run them
But if you got registration I guess I'm gonna be in

Runnin up through Monkeyville
Set up like a bowling pin
Knocked down, it gets to wearing thin
The monkeys just won't let you be

You're sick of waiting around, you'd like to Monkey
Get tired of Monkeying and you want to settle down
I guess they can't revoke your soul for trying
Get out of the door, get runnin' and look all around

Yeah. Runin' got my chips cashed in
Keep runin' like the monkey man
Together, more or less to the line
Just keep runin' on

Runin' I'm a going home
Whoa, whoa, baby, back where I belong
Back home, sit down and patch my bones
And get back runin' on

Wow. 9:33 am; 1 hour and 33 minutes into registration and I got the 2nd to last spot.

I know that there are a couple of people who wanted to run, but were not going to be able to register in the first couple of hours. I hope they got/get in!

The monkeys came and got me this morning, and now I'm in monkey prison, with the only way out to beat those darn critters on 11/21. My daughter and I will see you all in Nashville.

Hey Trent -- have the knitters been hard at work again this year? While I doubt I'd actually run fast enough to win one of those, a girl can still dream, can't she?

And now I'm out of Monkey prison with the sacrifice being my firend Ken so he can run his 39th marathon and finish his 50 before 50 quest by July! The sacrifice is that I have to run at least half and pace all you crazies up those hills and then see you at the finish. The rest of the Keanes will be volunteering somewhere on the course as well.
