Yes indeed. Crocheted monkeys are coming my way!

I think there's a typo on that poster since it says the race is a week from Sunday. Shocked

I'm sure both Air Quality and UV Index will be low due to Flying Monkey Poop.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you run
And admit that the fears
Within you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be scared to the bone.
If your hide to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start runnin'
Or you'll fall with a weak groan
For the monkeys they are a-flyin'.

Come joggers and racers
Who prophesize with your shoes
And keep your stride wide
Under the sun or the rain
And don't start too soon
For your wheel's are startin' in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That I'm namin'.
For the loser now
May be later to win
For the monkeys they are a-flyin'.

Come walkers, runners
Please heed my call
Don't stand by the roadway
Don't slow down and stall
For he that gets hurt
Will be break and then fall
There's a battle in your head ragin'.
It'll soon shake your eyballs
And rattle your soul
For the monkeys they are a-flyin'.

Come couch potatoes
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your friends and your colleagues
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the monkeys they are a-flyin'.

The start line it is drawn
The course it is cast
The slow ones now
Soon better be fast
As this weekend now
Will shortly be past
The ordeal is
Soon to be fadin'.
And each of you now
Best hope that you last.
For the monkeys they are a-flyin'.

Nope...can't find the kid.

You upgraded! When I ran the Monkey, the FMs were made of paper! I hate it when a race gets too big for its britches.

Have fun all and good luck. The monkeys have already made themselves known here by bringing the flu - so there will be no Keanes in Nashville this weekend.

Every year I make a promise to myself.

Every year I break the promise.

Every year I promise myself that I won't do this again. I won't put people through the painful, relentless suffering that is the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon.

And yet every year I do it anyway. It is a car-wreck, you don't want to look but you cannot keep your eyes off it.

But there it is. Monkey nature. You just gotta do what you are compelled to do. I guess.

Anyhow, if you are foolish, registration will open on August 1 at 8am Central time. Here:

http://www.active.com/running/nashville-tn/harpeth-hills-flying-monkey-marathon-2011

Last year, registration filled in 32 minutes. This year, who knows. Maybe the world's wisdom quotient has increased and nobody will register. One can only hope. The world would likely be a better place for it. For those who do actually register, the race is scheduled for Sunday, November 20 at 8am.

Anyhow. Perhaps we'll see you then.

Think Monkey

Taperfolk at Monkey?

Let me know. There is likely to be a lottery. A weighted lottery. In early August.

Only the man behind the curtains knows the weighting scheme. And he will only know how to weight you if he knows you are interested.

And if you are selected in the lottery, is that a win or a lose?

Let me know. Monkey 2012?

A fine way to increase the lottery weighting, indeed.

Official Info about 2012 Registration: Registration for 2012 will involve a weighted lottery. Registrants will be directed to the registration website, below. The registration website will be open for one week. That is, you will have one week to put your name in the hat. After this weeklong period closes, we will use a weighted lottery to select those who will have the misfortune of running the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon this Fall. If selected to run your credit card will be charged $80, and we will notify you of your poor luck. If you are not selected to run, you can thank your lucky stars.

Please note: there will be an option to make a $180 donation to the Friends of Warner Parks, which will allow you to bypass the lottery and get right in. This option will be available to the first 20 registrants who take this offer, on a first come, first served basis.

Registration for the lottery should open on August 1, 2012 at 8AM Central Daylight Time. Registration for the lottery will close on August 8, 2012 at 8am. The lottery to be held a short time later.

When registration opens, you can access the registration site from: http://www.harpethhillsmarathon.com/ under the "registration" tab.

Unofficial Info for Tapirs: Make sure the RD knows who the hell you are.

Wish I could have come back this year but its not in the stars. I'm running a 50K on the 17th, the only race I've ever DNF'd. I'm out for revenge. Revenge beats Monkey Twisted Evil
